in 2011-12, I conducted the sensory art program at Avondale Heights YMCA . The clients were a number of high-needs disabled people. The aim of the program was to give them an experience of the world beyond the confines of home and the institutions, in which they spent most of their time.
When I arrived there, the room that we were in was pretty bleak and austere. I started painting a number of pictures of native animals on the walls and by the time I finished up I had painted most of the room.
Later on I did some portraits of the clients too.
For OH&S reasons, all the paintings had to be done in horrible, clumpy, kiddy acrylics.
